What has worked for a couple of websites I'm involved with is called pay-per-click. I've got it set up with Yahoo and Google.

What happens is when someone types in specific key word searches that match my web site content, my web site is listed at the top of the search in the sponsored search area. It has increased my web site traffic by the thousands.

General information:
Pay per click (PPC) is an advertising model used on search engines, advertising networks, and content websites/blogs, where advertisers only pay when a user actually clicks on an ad to visit the advertiser's website. Advertisers bid on keywords they predict their target market will use as search terms when they are looking for a product or service. When a user types a keyword query matching the advertiser's keyword list, or views a page with relevant content, the advertiser's ad may be shown. These ads are called a "Sponsored link" or "sponsored ads" and appear next to or above the "natural" or organic results on search engine results pages, or anywhere a webmaster/blogger chooses on a content page.

Pay per click ads may also appear on content network websites. In this case, ad networks such as Google AdSense and Yahoo! Publisher Network attempt to provide ads that are relevant to the content of the page where they appear, and no search function is involved.

I have found traffic exchanges work well, they take some time, but you are getting people that are interested in viewing sites on line and you can vreate a multiplier effect if you get people under you at the best traffic exchanges. Hi,

There are many ways to market a small business on the web. You can buy banner ads, text links, or use PPC. However, the best way is to get listed in a bunch of portals. Portals and directories are like phone books, and they often provide a lot of traffic because they tend to rank high on Google.

There are two ways to get free traffic to your site - so excluding PayPerclick and other paid adverts.

well, this is an interesting quest.!!! this small idea might help, try to make something interactive in ur web site, something that will get attention , something that makes people come to ur site for doing this thing , like a chat room for ur customers, like a little exciting game , that will capture them , the more u can make ur site interactive the more traffic ull get , try to make contact with ur customers , a direct contact , talk to them ....bla bla bla, ur offering an intangible service so concentrate on the tangible extras .

You basically just need to get links to your website out there as much as possible. The more links you have on other websites the more traffic you will get. You can pay for this traffic or you can do it free. Paying for traffic will get you results quicker.
