Molly | How can I get my Page Rank Higher? |
How do you get your page rank higher on a blog? Is it from how many visits you have or how often it is seen on google? |
|

Pagerank is mainly obtained from sites linking to you. When you link to someone else a small part of your page rank is transferred to them, the more RELEVANT links you have pointing to your site, the better your pagerank will get. However, relevant is important, if your site is about horses, then links from other horse sites will help, links from sites selling washing machines won't.
Don't worry about page rank though, its not important any more, there are many other factors that are more important. Google have just had a big shake up and dropped peoples page rank that they believed came from buying links.
Also bear in mind that the PageRank you see in the google toolbar is called your "visible pagerank". This is only updated every 3 months, and is a rough indication of your pagerank. Your actual pagerank is calculated daily by google for use in their forumulas, and that figure is never revealed.
Pagerank is dead now though, I`ve seen sites with a visible pagerank of 0 outrank sites with a pagerank of 5, the important thing is how relevant your site is to the search query.
Far too many people spend their time worrying about their pagerank, and thats time wasted. Spend the time adding new content to your website, and you`ll do much better! Just pretend pagerank doesn't exist and make your site the best you can. Do that, and you`ll easily out rank sites with a higher pagerank than yours :-) |

No pagerank is not from how many visits you have or how often it is seen on Google. Pagerank is about
a) how many other sites link to your site
b) what is the quality of the site linking to your site
If a site such as CNN.com, which has a pagerank of 9, links to your site, then that is given more weight compared to a site with pagerank of 1.
Here's how Google explains pagerank http://www.google.com/technology/
--------------------
PageRank Explained
PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at considerably more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; for example, it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important." Using these and other factors, Google provides its views on pages' relative importance.
Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines dozens of aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query.
--------------------
To improve your pagerank, start with your content. Big sites cannot be persuaded to link to you just by sending an email to them, especially if you are sending one of these auto generated emails created by link building software. Authority sites will only link to you if they actually find something of value to your site that their own audiences will want to see.
Create great content, then embark on a link building strategy. That's the only way you can improve pagerank |

Hi,
The most direct advice, from Google's Webmaster Central, is as follows:
"In general, webmasters can improve the rank of their sites by increasing the number of high-quality sites that link to their pages."
While "high-quality" is open to interpretation, I recommend seeking out other websites with topics and themes related to your own blog. Visit those sites, comment where appropriate, email the webmaster and let them know about your blog...these are all possible ways to gain additional links.
The most effective method of gaining high-quality links (and thereby increasing PageRank) is to consistently publish information that your blog readers will value and appreciate. This leads to more activity on your site while also increasing the likelihood that your content will be bookmarked and / or submitted to the various social media sites.
One final note: PageRank is just one indicator, and its numerical rating can change due to factors that are entirely beyond your control. Many very popular blog sites have dropped 2-3 PageRank points recently due to a change in the way Google assesses PageRank (do a search for "Google Slap" for further information).
Basically, try to avoid focusing too much on simply increasing your blog's PageRank. Focus instead on producing interesting content at your blog and establishing links with related sites and you should do fine.
Best of Luck!

PageRank is all about number of quality backlinks to you site you obtain. It has very little use in general and recently Google reduced several high ranking websites such as apple.com and statcounter.com as they had links on their site to other sites written in HTML that did not have the rel="nofollow" tag on the links so therefore Google punished them with a PR reduction as the search engine interpreted the links without the no follow to be link trading or selling and therefore a violation of their policies as a portion of their PR would benefit the other site.
It sound petty I know but it is what happened. Here is ore info on it as well.

There are a lot of things that affect page rank. A big one is to increase the number of pages that link to you, Google sees that as credibility, for instance talk to a blogger in your field and tell him your story, if he writes about you, that would help, get involved in communities and forums and put up a link to your site, but don't spam |

The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is
to first set up a website and publish its domain name
on major search directories such as Google.com,
Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?...... and
MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these
search directories to provide them with goods and
services. In a sense, these search directories are a
very large Internet Yellow Pages.
Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage
fail to contain "generic" keywords, then anyone using
such "generic" queries will not be able to discover
your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website,
in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.
You may want to consider some simple algorithms which,
when observed and committed in designing of a website
with placement of various critical metatags that can
surely achieve a high search engine presence and
increase Internet traffic to your website. These
metatag strategies work well with published webpages
at Google and Yahoo.
Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based
website, make sure to fill-in the property entries
such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing
to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can
be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the
Internet audience and their incoming setup. For
example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages
take too long to load up and therefore analog users
will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the
Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL
lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So
before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple
question, "Who's my end user - is he on dialup or
DSL?" And if you had to choose between these two users
for maximum marketability, then select analog users
since 80% of most resident users are still analog
Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages
is best for them.
A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text,
is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit
the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a
graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.
Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots
are unable to properly classify textual material.
Placement of Metatags:
A ranking or search order does take place with Google
and Yahoo and it begins with the "Title" metag which
should consist of no more than 60 characters separated
by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic terms, the goods and services, followed by a location from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state. The placement of a domain name which is not generic within the "Title" is not appropriate, unless your
domain name is a major recognizable brand name.
The second metatag is the "Description" which is
usually up to 41 words to form a complete paragraph which
best describes one's goods and services. It is not merely a list.
And the very last category - "Keywords" are also
somewhat limited to 15 words which can be plural
and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which
is defined as the loading, and submission of
repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
"Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported
to Google's spamreport.com can result in the
elimination of your website from their search
directory.
Here's an example of a very highly-placed website on
Google.com: Begin with the very "generic" search query
"sandwiches downtown los angeles," taking note to not
abbreviate Los Angeles to "LA" and of course, leave
out the parentheses ("). It will bring up some 2.4
million+ search results. Check out where "Nazos.net"
is ranked. It's on the SECOND FRONT [ranked 15]!
Again, Nazos.net's high web presence was achieved by
proper web design and placement of relevant metatags
according to Google's publication guidelines.
Good luck! |
