How can I get my website to be the first one when people search my topic with google?

I have a daycare and I want my website to be at the top of the list when people search for daycares, how would I do that or how would I get it to be a sponsored link through google? Any ideas?

You will have to optimize your site, it is called Search Engine Optimization or SEO for short.

It is not easy but it is not rocket science either. There are only two up to date, free, high quality tutorials that tell you how to do SEO properly:

Your research, that is. How many sites do you have to beat to make it to the top? Keywords are vital to your success, but HOW do you know which ones to use and with how many searches to compete with? Consider this scenario: You do your research, find the top site in your niche, click on the "view source" link and 'YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO LOOK AT MY CODE" message hits you. They can do it to you, to me but they can't and won't do it to the search engines. They have to show it to them to get their rankings. Now do you know what they have revealed to the search engines? NO?
Well, I do and I get it served on a silver platter with no extra research. And now I use it all the time. When you use other keyword research tool you still have to do the research. Some programs even charge you for that.

Sponsored links? It depends what you have to pay per click using specific keyword, the conversion ratio, depending how good you are at writing ads and a few other tricks.

Google is the top search engine and many top Internet marketers don't bother about the rest. However there are many other and free ways to get your message across to the "thirsty crowd".

You may want to consider some simple algorithms which,
when observed and committed in designing of a website
with placement of various critical metatags that can
surely achieve a high search engine presence and
increase Internet traffic to your website. These
metatag strategies work well with published webpages
at Google and Yahoo.

Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based
website, make sure to fill-in the property entries
such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing
to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can
be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the
Internet audience and their incoming setup. For
example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages
take too long to load up and therefore analog users
will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the

question, "Who's my end user - is he on dialup or
DSL?" And if you had to choose between these two users

is best for them.

A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text,
is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit
the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a
graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.

Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots
are unable to properly classify textual material.

Placement of Metatags:

A ranking or search order does take place with Google
and Yahoo and it begins with the "Title" metag which
should consist of no more than 65 characters separated
by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic
terms, the goods and services, followed by a location
from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state.
The placement of a domain name which is not generic
within the "Title" is not appropriate, unless your
domain name is a major recognizable brand name.

The second metatag is the "Description" which is
usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which
best describes one's goods and services.

And the very last category - "Keywords" are also
somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural
and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which
is defined as the loading, and submission of
repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
"Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported
to Google's spamreport.com can result in the
elimination of your website from their search
directory.

Here's an example of a very highly-placed website on
Google.com: Begin with the very "generic" search query
"sandwiches downtown los angeles," taking note to not
abbreviate Los Angeles to "LA" and of course, leave
out the parentheses ("). It will bring up some 2.4
million+ search results. Check out where "Nazos.net"
is ranked. It's on the SECOND FRONT [ranked 15]!
Again, Nazos.net's high web presence was achieved by
proper web design and placement of relevant metatags
according to Google's publication guidelines.

There is no easy way to get your site a high ranking.

1) Target the right keywords. Target the wrong keyword phrases and your online business is destined to fail.

2) Don't use keywords or phrases that are too broad. The competition is too fierce, and research has shown that though you will get more traffic through general phrases, that traffic doesn't convert to sales. All of the traffic in the world will do you no good if it doesn't convert to sales!

3) Optimize your page content. Target each Web page to a different and highly focused keyword phrase. In other words, your main page should be optimized for one keyword phrase. Are the keywords used relative to the site's overall content? Do you use too many keywords, or too few?

Going by just your post alone the only real way for your site to appear 1st when "daycare" is typed into a search engine is for you to pay to have your site listed first!

The only other alternative is for you t o work at it. For instance my blog is around 4 months old and so far it appears on page 1 when specific keywords are typed into Google's search engine. Now mind you all I have done so far is to work on t he content of my site. My site is not at the top of page one but it is on page one. I last checked it yesterday and it has moved up a "notch".

I agree with what the others have said in that the term "daycare" is very general in nature but if that is the way that you want to go then you have a LOT of work a head of you!

Simply put, it's not easy. Other daycares also have the same desire. I would suggest that you focus on getting your daycare first in your local area (town, city, county, state).
