just besure to make the clickable word/phrase something you want your site to be pushed higher in search results for

if you want known for todays latest news then make "todays latest news" clickable.. not sure exactly what keywords you are shooting for, but that is an example..
You can also purchase backlinks as well, but this is frowned upon in google search engine, if they find you are purchasing links aka they find like 500 new backlinks in 1 day they will place it in their database not to use them to rank your site.

Try using link exchange sites. I use www.linkmarket.net. It is a free site for link exchanges. You set up an account and search for others you would like to exchange with and send a request. Other sites can also send you requests also. Link Market pretty much does all the work for you.
