You do not need to submit your site to a search engine. Those days are gone, The engines will find you on their own. Be sure to have links on other sites as well, as that will help, and be sure to have a site map and a robot.txt file as well as that tells the engines they can index your web site. But getting index is nothing, getting top rankings is what you need to achieve and if your site is not optimized correctly, then how will people find you?

The best way to submit a website to a search engine is actually to get linked from sites that are already doing well. This will often result in your site showing up in the search engine index a lot faster than if you submit through the "add your site" forms. You'll also most likely avoid the dreaded "Google Sandbox" where your site won't show up in Google for several weeks after submission.
Try to get linked by sites that are similar in content to your own. If you download the Google toolbar check the PageRank - the better the rank the better the benefits of being linked will be. Don't buy links or just get listed on a big page of link lists though - try to be written about in an article on the site.

there are many ways, the easies it to go to the bottom of yahoo and click add site, then go to google and click submit site, it may ask you to create a page, if you area webmaster. stay away from the ad blaster sites,, they suck!
