ktwhoopi | How do I get more people to look at my ebay sales? |
I have just started selling on ebay but can't seem to get people to look at my things.
I don't want to pay to increase their visibility on ebay itself, I'd rather post in forums etc, anywhere, to increase the amount of people who come to look.
Any advice? Websites?
Thank you in advance! |

Southern Belle has it exactly right!
I just want to add that if you post on the ebay discussion boards, that will also increase your visibility, since boardies will look at other boardies items daily.
Good Luck! |

Start with eBay.
What are your item titles?
Only the title is searchable (not subtitles).
When I search on eBay for books I type the name of the book and the edition like "Biology 11th" or I'll add an author "Biology 11th Starr" for results.
If you're selling clothing you'll need to list brand name, size, and department, like "Old Navy low-waist jeans Juniors size 10." With that title, your item will show up every time someone searches for Old Navy, low waist jeans, size 10, juniors, or a combination of those words.
If you're selling jewelry, you'll need to list brand name, size, what it is, stones, and carat count. Like: "Kay Jewelers 3-stone Diamond ring 3/4 carat Size 8" Most people would search for "diamond ring size 8" and your item would show up.
You also need to make sure that you're listing in the correct category.
Another important thing is your pictures. The main picture should be clear and show the item, and all additional pictures should show different angles and too should be clear.
Details, details, details. I HATE eBay listings that say "womens shoes size 10" or "womens shirt NWT" - give me details! I want to know who the shoes are made by, what they look like, what the heel height is. I want to know who the shirt is made by, what size, I want measurements, and I want to know any other detail about it.
Price is the biggest factor in listings, also whether or not you're offering auction listings. If your item isnt heavily sought after- don't go with a buy it now only auction. Reserve prices aren't worth it either. Start the auction off at the minimum you'd accept for the item. If you MUST have $10 for the auction start it at $9.99.
Shipping costs: eBay buyers are the most critical about shipping and handling costs. Never charge more than $1 handling fee and never charge more than $1 extra in postage meaning that the price you charge should be within $2 of what the shipping cost is: otherwise buyers will hit your DSR's (star rating). You can also consider including the shipping price in the auction price and listing with free shipping which will get you more exposure.
Your feedback is also key. If you don't have any feedback...I'd suggest buying and at least get 10 feedbacks before you start selling to boost customer confidence.
Also offer paypal without a pre-paypal checkout. I HATE it when I have to go through an auctivia or similar checkout then get to paypal.
Lastly- keep your auctions simple. I can't stand having to wait 5 minutes for a page to load because of all the crap the seller has on a page. Keep your TOS short and to the point. No one wants to read through 6 paragraphs of sale terms. Know eBay rules!
You ARE responsibile for getting the item you advertise to the buyer in the condition in which you advertised! So, the blurb about "not responsible for items lost or damaged by USPS" is NOT true. A buyer can file a paypal claim and get their money back regardless because eBay policy trumps seller policy.
I hope these pointers help! |

I sell on ebay occasionally and the only advice I can give you is fit as many words as you can in the heading. I look at other peoples listings and see which ones have the most bids and look for key words to put on the listing. Also, make sure you take good clear pictures and give good descriptions to what you are selling. |

1) Use key words. One of the most important thing about a listing are the key words. Those are the words that people search to find your item. People can't buy what they can't find. Be sure to list the model number, color, year or any other pertinent information in the title. If your selling a Ford truck don't forget to put the word truck. If your selling a dvd don't forget the word dvd.
3) Know your buyer. Who is looking for your item and what key words will they be searching? For example. I sold some pictures of Islanders from WWII smoking cigars. My buyers were collectors of WWII memorabilia, primitive tribe collectors, photographic collectors and cigar collectors. The National Cigar Museum was the high bidder therefor making cigar my most important key word.
2) Use what you've got. You get 55 characters in your title so use them. Add extra key words to your title at the end. If your selling an old cigar sign ad words like tobacco, tin, porcelain, or antique. If your selling an old prop from a horror movie try words like, prop, movie, horror, vampire, weird, strange, 1960s, or slasher.
3) Don't use the same word twice. Its a waist of space to use the same word in the title twice. When someone searches it doesn't matter how many times they type the same word eBay only searches that word once.
4) Avoided using filler words. In other words avoid words like the and and. If you must use and just use &.
5) No typos in your title. If you misspell a key word then very few people will find your item thus driving down you margin of profit. I have friends who purposely seek out auctions with typos in order to pay less for a normally more expensive item. |

Use all 54 characters that Ebay gives you in your listing. Most people search for items by a word match search and if your listing does not have the word in it that they are searching for they will not see your listing. Use similar words that mean the same thing if you are having trouble thinking of other words that should be in your listing. Use all the word spaces given.
Pick a categories that fits the item you are trying to sell.
Take a Great Photo, your photo should look great both as a small icon so people will click on it to see more and good once the open it to see how it looks
Have shipping rates and all info on your item spelled out, many people will not email with questions but move on to a more clearly describedd listing.
a cheat which is not according to ebay rules and can get your item delisted, is to add popular words relating to your item like copyrighted names or brands that are similar. |

You need to create an eye catching title . Be adventerous with your title but also make sure it properly reflects what you are selling . Write down about 20 different titles on a sheet of paper and select which one that appeals to you most

Use as many Discriptive words in your title. Also make sure you have a clear picture on the listing |

hi,
At some point during the existence of most eBay businesses there will be the dilemma of responding to a sales decrease. Most sellers will quickly recognize the decrease. Most will choose to wait a little while to see if the sales come back to previous levels on their own. Whether sales come back or not, there is still the need to make money on eBay to cover the overhead associated with running a business.
Sellers recognize that to make money on eBay consistent sales must occur. When there is a slowdown in sales the questions and concerns start rolling in. Is this slowdown just a bad day, a bad week, or has the market started to decline for the products that are being sold. Sellers begin to ask themselves what needs to happen to get things back on track and to once again start to make money on eBay. |
