It is not hard to get your site to the top of the listing. The hard thing is to get it to the top of a listing for a keyword(s) that people search for. If you are at the top of the listing for "Coffee Shop named My Coffee Shop on Any Street, Mytown" who cares as no one is going to type that into a Search Engine. But if you are at the top of the list for "Coffee" or even "coffee shop" that is a very good thing as there are thousands of people who search for those keywords everyday.
So you need to figure out what keywords you want to rank high for and have those keywords in your URL (if you already have a site don't worry about it). Then have those keywords in your URL, your page title, keywords and in the content on your page (in your heading, in the text and again at the bottom of your text).
Then you need to get links back to your site with the anchor text using those keywords that you want to rank high for. This can be done by adding signatures to forum posts, submitting to directories, social bookmarking, writing articles, blogging, etc.
