You can also register a domain or configure it to work with your existing domain. They make it really simple and provide everything: hosting, domain registration, tons of templates to choose from, images, videos, etc... I've never found anything out there quite like it. It's pretty powerful, and at the same time super easy to use.

I'm not aware of any place you can do that for free.
There are lots of free places where you can do a simple website, but you don't get to have the "www.yournamehere.com" part.
To have the www part, you have to shell out a few bucks to register the domain. It's pretty cheap - like under $10 most places, and you can get a basic webhost for a few bucks a month. |

If you are paying for your own Internet services, then you have an option to build your own free web site. Check out the features with your service. Yahoo also offers a free web site.
Keep in mind that with free web sites, you get their main domain name and you have to have a forward slash :"whatever i want placed here" type of thing and also the third party advertising is flashed on the side or top of your free site and may show a competing product on your site which may be o.k. with you if you want something for free.
Check out Godaddy.com for a cheap domain name and cheap hosting fee. You can also purchase a template to build your web site in an hour. |

The source link I've included is part 1 of 4 of a series of articles on getting setup with your own website for free. See the related links at the bottom of part 1 for links to the rest of them.
The only thing the articles don't do for you is get you your own domain name (e.g. "www.whatever.com"). Normally you have to pay for those. However, you can get a domain for free at http://www.dot.tk/en/pageA00.html .
You'll want to setup your website first, and then create the domain name and point it to the real website address. Then you'll be ready to go.
Note that the advantage of paying for a domain name is that you then own it. The free domain name from the link above could be taken away from you at any time, since dotTK owns it (I haven't heard of anyone having this trouble, but it is possible).
A domain name costs only about $8 - $10 a year, so unless you're on a super tight budget, combining the free website with a paid domain name provides more security. |
