I've done this and it ain't easy cause everyone in the world with a sewing machine thinks they are your competitor.
Big picture is to have a solid marketing plan and story to tell the customer. They get tired of hearing nonsense and big promises from companies that are here one day and gone the next. Part of that story is how many pieces will you have each season? How many will you keep and how many will you replace? What's your color story? Who are you selling to and why (prove you know how your customer is and the wrong answer is everyone)? Know the markups at each channel level and know what it does to end price. Can your product sell after the markups? What's your advertising plan or do you expect them to do it all (won't happen)?
If you're new to the biz, find some friendly buyers, even if they won't buy from you, who will talk with you and teach you the ropes from their point of view. Listen to each one of them like they are telling you the location of a gold mine. |

You have to attend the trade shows as a vendor and set up a booth, it costs a couple of thousand dollars or so, and show your merchandise there. That is where the buyers go. You'll get a bigger audience there, and hopefully contacts.
Or find out who the merchandisers are at the big dept. stores (if you don't want to spend the $), and hope that your line will be targeted to their customer base. |

Walk into their stores and speak with the owners about your lines.
Also, look into the Chamber of Commerce for the cities.
Also you can look into diff. organizations which specialize, like women business owners assoc., womens associations, so many on line now. All women in business.
look online for retail association, but best to walk right into their stores, make sure you see the owners only. |

Choose a very different name for your line...create some low cost buzz around your Brand (dont advertise at this stage)...let them hear about you from some other source and let them feel that they are the first ones to sniff this opportunity...
When you meet sell the profitability quotient of your collection (would help if you do some reserch and use some numbers)

all you have to do is to deal with advertising agencies for them to advertise your clothing line and to encourage potential distributors to be part of your clothing business. TV ads and billboards will be the best ways to do this. It will have a wide range of distribution in your area. |
