1st: you'll need to know what keywords to optimize for. The easiest way to figure that out is to run a Google adwords campaign and track the results. Google will give you free tracking software.
Run for about 30 days and see which words turned into $$ and which words didn't. Clear out the bad words.
Now you should have maybe 3-5 keywords which will bring you profits.
You'll want to optimize your pages for these.
On page: Make sure your keywords is:
- In Your URL
- In your page description
- in the meta tags
- in the tags: h1, h2, h3
- total page keyword % of no more than 3%.
Off Page (Even more important)
- Figure out what "anchor text" is and use it everywhere.
- never post an article you published elsewhere on your home site
- get lots of 1 way links pointing to your site from other sites which are like yours
- Google your $$ keywords and see what your competition is doing.
Here's How To Do That:
Google "Keyword In Quotes"
Copy the URL from each page and go to Yahoo.
Search like this:
Link: (Past URL here)
This will bring back the number of 1 way links going to that page.
If you're finding each of the top 10 results has like 600,000 1 way links... you may want to find a lower competition keyword.
Or you can optimize for geographic specific keywords. Like "Auto Repair Chicago" or something like that.
