Whats cool for a business like that is if you have a website. Maybe a blog will help. You can talk about the different types of clothes you have and show photos. Online marketing can spread the word about your business pretty fast if you choose the right websites on which to market.
Since you are a recent startup keeping expenses down is going to be a important.
Here is a link to a website that has a link to 10 free sources of online marketing.

you should have your friends and relatives wear your designs to parties and places where there will be alot of people. No matter where you go someone always asks "where did you get that outfit?".Make flyers and hang them in your local neighborhood businesses. |

Have you thought about pay per click programs? The two biggest, I think, are Yahoo! and Google
A few free resources – check out the sources box for links:
1) Create a blog pertaining to your field
2) Use Yahoo! Local & Yahoo! Groups – Be sure to read the TOS for each one!
3) Write articles pertaining to your field and/or expertise.
4) Advertise on Craiglist
Also, consider signing up for an affiliate program. These programs enable you to advertise on other's sites (your affiliates) and once a sale is made to you, your affiliates & the program are paid a commission.
I listed a few handy sites & articles relating to marketing, promotion & advertising. Here are some book titles that are relevant:
* The Complete Idiot's Guide ® to Marketing Basics by Sarah White
* The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing by Al Ries, Jack Trout
* Creative Advertising: Ideas and Techniques from the World's Best Campaigns by Mario Pricken
* Entrepreneur Magazine's Ultimate Small Business Marketing Guide: Over 1500 Great Marketing Tricks That Will Drive Your Business Through the Roof by James Stephenson
* 301 Do-It-Yourself Marketing Ideas: From America's Most Innovative Small Companies by Sam Decker
* Fashion for Profit (Revised Edition with Retail Chapter) by Frances Harder
* The Fashion Designer Survival Guide: An Insider's Look at Starting and Running Your Own Fashion Business by Mary Gehlhar
Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have about the clothing industry as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.
Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures! |

I assume you have a very small budget. You have three basic things to think about:
Who are you talking to?
What are you trying to say?
How are yoou going to say it?
Once you can answer those questions, you'll be able to put a basic ad together. If you want to see some great ads, take a look at www.neilfrench.com.
Once you know who the people are you're targeting, and what you want to say to them, think of tactical ways you might reach them. Try ads in the classifieds. Try getting your logo in the shops you get into. Get decals for your car. Put a sign out front. Community noticeboards.
Use your imagination. Just remember that the better your message is and the wider its spread, the better it will work. |

Exactly, free marketing can often be the best marketing.
I'm assuming the budget is pretty limited, so do your own research as to who is going to be wearing your clothes then find them. If it's young people like college students, get in contact with the local college radio station and find at least one DJ that likes your clothing line. Offer a free outfit every so often as long as they pimp your gear on the air once in a while. |
