How do you begin selling pampered chef/mary kay, etc?
I am interested in finding out how to find customers when you begin selling these items. I tried before using craigslist, ads in the newspaper and an open house. No one responded to these.

How do you get customers when you are new in town and don't know anyone?

I used to sell Pampered Chef, and was pretty successful at it. Initially, I started with my friends and co-workers, church friends, and built from there. But I also took advantage of local faires or other public events and took fliers to hand out advertising my business. This doesn't cost much, and you'll be surprised at how much business you can drum up that way. Also, our town has a monthly mailer that goes out to everyone in the community, and it is not very expensive to place an ad in the back of it. I did that and would get 3-4 leads a month from it. I guess if you don't have local connections, the best way to get customers is to get out to where the people are and advertise that way. I think having a home-based business can be very lucrative if you can stay motivated. Good luck! :)

I wish there was a simple answer to this question it is more of a conversation because there are so many ways. In Mary Kay the fist thing is we have weekly success nights where we get training on topics just like this one. We share ideas with each other and stay updated on products. We also have websites and workshops. I have done things such as facial boxes and fishbowls in doctors offices and hair salons where people sign up I have also done events such as fairs and nurse's appreciation at our local hospital all of which was taught to me ( and I was petrified at first now I love it) I can't speak for other direct sales but I'm sure they have something they do to help new consultants get started. I can certainly speak from experience with Mary Kay the support system is fabulous.

You need to get involved in your community in other ways to meet people. Church, local chamber of commerce, Rotary club, volunteer at your library. You will get to know people and then be able to get them introduced to your products.

Hi, one way is to go to different neighborhoods including yours and hand out catalogs. Introduce yourself and let them know what your products are. Also have a card or a flyer for people who may not be home or just don't answer the door. You can also make flyers and post them in the local laundrymat, grocery store etc.

If you would like to consider doing Pampered Chef I would love to talk to you about it. Its a wonderful work at your own pace employment

You can sign up different ways with Mary Kay, online, in person, over the phone, etc. To get customers, start with your family and friends and those will turn into new clients so on and so forth.

Remember this: "An open mouth is an open business and a closed mouth means you're out of business." I talk to everyone I see everywhere I go. If you feel intimidated to talk to a particular person then that means you need to kick yourself in the keaster and get over there and talk to them because you never know who will be your next customer or team member.

If you see someone and you feel like you would like for them to be your customer, how would you feel if someone beat you to the punch? How about the person that has been your customer and you never asked them about starting their own Mary Kay business and someone else did and recruited them? Would you feel a little ticked? If so, that's all the more reason to get out there and talk to people especially when you get the gut feeling you should. (I've had it come back and bite me a couple of times because I didn't do what I should've.)

Another great way to meet people and get customer names and numbers is to have a fish bowl. Find a store you would like to have it in, get permission from the store manager, put a flyer on the ballot box with some cards for people to fill out, and check it weekly. Make it a drawing for them to win something.

You can contact me at my website if you want more info or to sign up.

I'm an Avon rep and I get customers by hanging brochures on doors with a note, a couple of samples, and a coupon. Sometimes I will knock and give the book to whoever opens the door. Just watch out for No Soliciting signs and make sure you aren't doing anything that is against your city ordinances/codes.

I also give brochures to cashiers and leave them in laundromats, convenience stores, salons, doctor offices, banks, etc. I put my business cards and fliers on every bulletin board I see. I offer a discount on all orders sent to me by email and I give free gifts with orders over $20. Sometimes I wear Avon pins and I have a couple of shirts that say Avon.
I put some brochures and samples out when I have garage sales during the summer.

Good luck!
