You should look into hiring a public relations team. But if you don't have the money for that...
Companies don't sponsor something unless they KNOW they're getting something in return. What are you giving your sponsors? Media exposure? Clients?
Play off your connections. Have you met people with contacts at some of the functions you've spoken at? Don't be afraid to use your contacts!
What you need to do is have a pretty solid concept of an event you want to hold. Then, TEAM UP with other people. As a single motivational speaker, who I am assuming isn't super-well known (you're not a Dr. Phil, right?) you're going to need to draw more media attention, ie, more people/companies. |

I agree with everything James M said. I just want to add that offering local sources of media a trade. Instead of asking them for a monetary donation offer them recognition as a sponsor equivalent to their advertising donation. |

First begin by talking to the companies that are close to the venue where you are holding the event. Explain to them what the event is about, and aprox how many people are expected to attend. Work your way out farther from there. Next contact companies who might best benefit from the event, giving them all the info about it.
Send out letters, make phone calls, etc.
You are selling the event to these companies, in an effort to show them how sponsorship of it will benefit them.
Put together a media kit, and send it to every media outlet in the area. They may ask for you to pay them to advertise the event, but some might just put it in a community calender for little or nothing. But get the word out! The more attention that is given to the event, the more sponsors may be apt to become a part of it. |

The sponsors want stats and low cost for their advertising, check how many people you impact, and search the sponsors witch their brands can fit. |
