You can do this at the US Copyright Office â€“ see the last 2 links in the source box. The application is fairly simple & the cost is $45 per application.

Despite what others state, a "poor man's" copyright is NOT the same as registering it. Here's what the US Copyright Office has to say:

"The practice of sending a copy of your own work to yourself is sometimes called a 'poor manâ€™s copyright.' There is no provision in the copyright law regarding any such type of protection, and it is not a substitute for registration."

You can have your idea patented or copywritten.

I would suggest that whenever you want to market your idea, that you accompany it and present it yourself. Never leave it with anyone and if you do, make sure that they sign for it.

You can also make up an agreement stating that it would not be copied, reproduced etc. in any way and have them sign a copy for you and one for them to keep.

I don't really think you can protect an idea unless it patented. Also the networks doesn't take any ideas for shows, if for some reason they do, it becomes property of that network.

You can get your Idea copyrighted or get the script listed with the Writers Guild. Many places will not even LOOK at your script without a WG Number.
