Internet Marketing

Because you haven't asked any real specifics I will list out what you really need to start from "scratch". I will also includes links where possible in the source section.
First you have to choose a web hosting company that offers all the services you will need. Some hosts provide reporting, template design programs, php applications (example - Formmail), sub-domains, forum or blog software, etc. Others do not, and you have to pay extra for these services. Pick what services you need and do some research on which companies provide you exactly what you need at the best price with the best customer reviews.
Next step is to choose your domain name. If you are targeting specific keywords (I will explain this in more detail below) then try to choose a domain that includes these words and check to see if it is available. Of note, when you choose your web host you normally get the domain name registration free for as long as you stay with the host.
Keyword selection as I mentioned above means choosing the proper words to use so that people will find you on the web. So lets say someone types in "Math Education" make sure you use this as a keyword and that it is also in the domain name and title page of your index.
Your next step is to build your site, as one of the other answerers suggested you can use any number of site builder softwares. It all depends whether or not you have zero, some, or a lot of coding experience. There are WYSIWYG editors out there that can compile a site pretty quickly if you have none, and they include templates as well.
You never mentioned if your site would sell anything, or if this is a hobby, etc. So I am not sure if you are planning to advertise it or have a budget limit. Once you have completed all the on-site SEO your next step will be to list your site on directories using the above mentioned chosen keywords as anchor text titles. This means if your site is about "Math Education", get your site listed in all the free directories you can with "Math Education" as the title choice. You can also submit articles about your new site to free article sites and that will provide you with even more needed links to improve your site placement in search engines.
-To sum up the best web hosting I have found is about 5.95 a month (3 year term - registration included).
-The web designer program that I use was 49.00 (WYSIWYG) so you do not need any really programming experience. (Also comes with a free trial)
-Doing the on site SEO if you have no experience in what to do will require a report which is available for 19.00 and will show you exactly what to do to improve your search engine placement. (You can also join the numerous forum out there for tips)
-Listing your site in free directories or using free article sites involves time not cost.
Total cost around 300.00 for a start-up not including the time you will need to invest in doing the work. Hope this helps you out. |

Begin with setting up your own webpage as your current internet provider will provide free hosting as discussed below.
If you are currently a paid Internet subscriber, you are entitled to a "homepage" which often contains simple navigation and editing tools. And if you use the Netscape browser, the built-in Composer feature is a superior HTML authoring tool which is totally free. You can easily generate a full-blown website as a Homepage.
Nevertheless, the "homepage" URL is likely to be "http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscribe... name" and that URL can easily be overwritten via a redirection service, i.e., "mydomain.com" which allows you to link any registered domain name to "mask" another website. For example, should you type in the "domain name," you will be immediately transported to the homepage and the hompage URL of http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber... a homepage URL which will be masked by the domain name. And the charge for the redirection service [even at godaddy.com] is normally FREE.
When you acquire a domain name, connect it using a redirection service [as discussed above] and submit/publish the domain name on major search engines/directories in order for Net surfers to find your website.
Good luck! |

It's generally cheap to get your website up and running - most of the costs will come if you decide to hire someone to design the website for you.
But as far as the technical up-start costs and maintenance, it's really affordable.
1. hosting fees (7$/month)
I use hostgator.com, they're great and have 24hours customer support
2. domain name registration (10$/year)
namecheap.com
HTML knowledge is required to build a website. It's not that complicated and you can use free software like NVU that has a WYSIWYG interface (What You See Is What You Get).
Otherwise, you can buy a website template for $40 to $200 but it's not very flexible.
Or hire a designer for a lot more money. |

Cost...as much or as little as you choose.
How? Sitesell or SiteBuildIt!
Why? Their tools help you to drill down to the best way to pull out and format your information while optimizing your reach to your target markets.
It's kind of like "Internet Marketing for Dummies", pun intended.
But really , give them a look see. Also take a look at a few case-studies there. |
