Google indexes pages on the Web by using what are commonly known as "spiders", "crawlers", or "robots".

Google's famous search engine spider, GoogleBot, uses links on web pages as a sort of freeway. It travels from site to site by following links. When Google finds a new web page, Google will "crawl" the code on the page and transport it back to its datacenter. Google's "FreshBot" may visit "indexed websites" everyday in order to keep the index fresh.

Some other factors that seem to be major contributing factors in the algorithm of Google and other major search enignes include:

* Keyword-rich, visible, on-page content in the form of paragraphs of complete sentences (not keyword after keyword separated by commas. This should be informative, descriptive text using words pertaining to your business.)

* The quality of the web pages out on the Web that are linking to your site
* The number of links on a page

The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is
to first set up a website and publish its domain name
on major search directories such as Google.com,
Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?...... and

is best for them.

A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text,
is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit
the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a
graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.

Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots
are unable to properly classify textual material.

Placement of Metatags:

A ranking or search order does take place with Google
and Yahoo and it begins with the "Title" metag which
should consist of no more than 65 characters separated
by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic
terms, the goods and services, followed by a location
from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state.
The placement of a domain name which is not generic
within the "Title" is not appropriate, unless your
domain name is a major recognizable brand name.

The second metatag is the "Description" which is
usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which
best describes one's goods and services.

And the very last category - "Keywords" are also
somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural
and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which
is defined as the loading, and submission of
repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
"Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported
to Google's spamreport.com can result in the
elimination of your website from their search
directory.

Search engines send crawlers out into the web to find and index websites into their engine. When you type in a search term on a search engine, it pulls up the indexed pages based on the information that the crawlers found.

To help your website to be found easier, and rank better in a search engine, you need it to be relevant to the search term used. The way to do that is to use the term in your site.

The topic of the page you're working on should be the keyword that you want to optimize. First, you want your keyword to show up in the page title. Next, you want to write good, relevant content for your page that includes your search term several times. Search engine crawlers will look for keyword "density", meaning how many times a keyword shows up out of the total amount of text. You want a certain percent of your text to be your keyword (about 2-4%)

Splitting up topics and giving each individual subject its own page on your website will help our ranking out, too. You want to keep your pages specific to one topic, so it can rank higher in the search engines, and it'll also provide your website with several "doors" for visitors to come in by.

It's also beneficial to use specific terms, instead of broad ones. The best way I've heard this explained was, if your page is about widgets, and hundreds of thousands of other sites are also about widgets, then make your page about blue widgets, and another about green widgets.

It's called a niche, and when you pare down your pages to be specific, relevant, keyword-dense, and full of valuable content, your ranking will be better.
