They advertise through their web site, sales consultants and word of mouth. Not like the door to door sales they used to do in the older days.
They also allow their consultants to set up kiosks at malls, military exchanges and a few store fronts. Some schools and other organizations use Avon for fund raisers.
They have been around so long that word of mouth is their best advertisement. |

Not only does Avon rely on its representatives to "get the word out', but they also have TV and Magazine Ads.
AVON IN APRIL MAGAZINES. InStyle (pg. 467) lists ANEW Clinical Retexturizing Peel among its "148 Best Beauty Buys." The "Ask Val" column in O, The Oprah Magazine (pg. 114) touts Skin So Soft Soft & Glow Satin Glow Daily Body Moisturizer. And Glamour (pg. 182) praises Avon as one of America's "eco-friendly" company.
Ads will run in the May issues (in stores soon!) of Oprah, Women's Day, Better Homes & Gardens, Good Housekeeping, Ladies' Home Journal, Family Circle, Parents, and First for Women.
Two Hello Tomorrow commercials featuring real Avon Representatives will debut April 9th on all four networks and dozens of cable stations including Lifetime, CMT, Fox News, Nick at Nite, The Food Network and the Weather Channel.
AVON has also employed famous personalities as their spokespeople, such as Venus and Serena Williams, Salma Hayak and Derek Jeter. Next week, Avon has the exclusive rights to Celine Dion's new fragrance "Spring in Paris".
Jennifer Hudson, of American Idol and Dreamgirls will soon join the list.
"Hudson is the new face of [Imari] Seduction," reports Vibe magazine (March 9). "[Avon] hired her to represent its best-selling fragrance, Imari, and the new Imari Seduction scent," says USA Today (March 22). "...her success will smell all the sweeter." Hudson/Avon reports have appeared in papers as far away as Tunisia! The Hello Tomorrow campaign has been well covered, too -- including a 1000-word feature in the New York Times (March 15) which analyzes the campaign.
In a three-page Allure feature, "A Man's Opinion," author Judith Newman spends a day with a male Avon Representative and several of his Customers. The article describes the male representative as "one of the growing number of men" who have joined Avon. He is shown to be an effective salesman, and he speaks very highly of the Representative experience: "There are many people who... well, maybe things weren't going well in their lives. But Avon helped turn their lives around."
So as you can see, Avon does spend money to promote their products. |

Good question. Through its network of intricate distribution channels. You will be able to get more info here @ http://www/geocities.com/lcming/AVON |

Well, avon has a website (http://www.avon.com) but usually you just order products through a sales representative that works independently. |

Technically, avon does not promote or advertise it's products itself. Avon is built on the backs of independent sales reps or distributors working on a commission basis.
True, they have a web site, but that site is there to catch sales from people who go online and just type "avon" in their browser, or people that try to bypass putting money into the pockets of a sales rep or distributor.
Avon, amway, and many other companies have a lower overhead because they spend very little on advertising. Besides, it would not be economically feasible for avon to compete against their sales reps and/or distributors which bring in the bulk of their sales and keep their overhead expenses down.
Avon works smart, not hard... by letting independent sales reps and distributors spend their own money advertising, distributing catalogs, having avon parties, running down friends, relatives, work associates, etc... then, add to that, the fact that these sales reps and distributors bring in more sales reps and distributors to market and sell avon produucts without the company itself lifting a finger or spending one dime on selling it's products or advertising to increase the company's profits.
A wise business man once said, "I'd rather have 1% of the profits from the efforts of 100 people; than to have 100% of the profits from my own efforts". Think about that and you'll see avon working within that quote. So, in fact, they spend most money selling a business or money making opportunity than selling products.
Hopefully this answer has been to your satisfaction for the question you asked. |

I think a better question to ask is how doesn't avon promote and advertise its products!
They have salespeople and magazines and a website and each salesperson has their own website. Since they do not have a location where you can purchase their products, they rely on advertising and promotion to make their profits.
But their biggest promoter is:
The Avon Lady
My Avon Lady is wonderful and her name is Yvonne. She brings magazines and samples and she is very reliable. She points out great deals too.
People like having an Avon Lady and I know that if they got rid of Avon Ladies then Avon would go out of business for sure.
