They are definitely effective, provided u get it right.
The loyalty period after which he starts reaping benefits shud not be too long away - just the required length to create a habit.
It would help in converting 'trial' customers to 'repeat'. However, u need to create trial thru some other route- linking 'references' to loyalty cards can help.
