We, as the public, are bombarded with ads -- they are so prevalent within our everyday world that alot of the time we don't even realize that they're there -- but, they are -- consistantly feeding our subconsciences with input on how we should live, what we need, what we want and don't even realize THAT we want !!
People even go to the extreme of PAYING to wear clothing with company logos on them (another form OF advertising)
THAT'S one that still nails ME to the floor --- paying to advertise FOR someone's products or services -- the person that ran that one up the flagpole and had it fly HAS to be one of the most ingenious ad designers to have ever lived !!!! |

There are many views of advertising
For the advertiser: it is an usually expensive way to get your name out, or promote a certain cause
For the people who sell advertising space: It is a way to make money but usual make your product (such as a magazine) more crappy or cheap. The reason why newspapers are cheap or free is because advertisers pay for the expense to print.
How this cycle works: Advertisers want to get their name/cause out-they advertise-People let them advertise because they lower costs to run and sometimes make their product free- When their product is free, more people are willing to read or use it and therefore more advertisers come as then more people will view their ad
Places advertising occurs: Websites(pop ups and banner adds) New papers, magazine, periodicals, Radio, TV, Phone, Mail, doorstep (telemarketers and solicitors)
How advertising affects us:
The obvious-Advertising affects what we buy, it gives advertisers a way to put their name out, ad sellers a way to earn money
The not obvious: Pop up blocks and other things help us annoyed consumers stop those advertisements, provides for new companies who eliminate ads on the computer when you are online
The Bottom Line: Advertising is a vast and a very old way to sell yourself, it covers all areas of business and many social area too
