Add a blog to your website and post to daily to start with and then you can drop back to 2-3 times a week.
Blog posts make sure the search engines keep coming back as the content is freshly updated.
Just remember that for everyone who visits your site there are thousands that know nothing about you. If you have good quality content you don't want to be changing it continuously.
You need to concentrate on getting links back into your site. Submit some articles to other webmasters, leave comments on other blogs and forums. Just make sure they are relevant.
Also promote your site to get traffic by using social networking sites.

Add fresh content every 2 days. You can also submit articles daily, if possible, to article directories like Ezine Articles, GoArticles etc.
By adding fresh content to your site and putting a note that your site is updated frequently, visitors may keep returning. Even if they didn't buy from you the first time they may do at the second or third visit.
Make sure all content is related to the affiliate program you are promoting.

I've only dabbled in affiliates, but if your aiming for raising your ratings on search engines, you want to make large changes at least every 7-10 days. This way the bots sent by the search engines will refresh your pages.
