To answer this question you'll need first to understand the differences between advertising and marketing.
Marketing is a generic term associated to getting a product / service to a "market", there are many elements associated such as 'product innovations', 'pricing strategies', 'defining the target market', 'setting distribution channels' and 'promotions' (namely the 4Ps in Marketing - 7Ps in services marketing).
While Advertising just a relative portion within the discipline of 'Promotion' there are other methods such as PR, Sales promotion, Personal Selling etc....
When discussing Advertising, you'll also need to remember the notorious AIDA model - Attention, interest, Desire, Action - and its ability to encourage each stage in the purchase cycle.
However, in simple terms 'advertising' would 'help' in increasing sales - but this is relative to how much attention, interest and desire it creates. |
