Just one thing - desribe your dishes accurately - if youre going to slather my chicken in disgusting parmesan cheese then tell me, dont let it come as an awful shock. Sorry I had a bad experience with a caesar salad. lol |

Very important!
In particular, an accurate and detailed description of each dish that sounds like it was written by someone who finds the dish delicious, and a clear layout which has type big enough & in an appropriate font for those who don't have 20/20 vision.
A legend and symbols which indicate which dishes contain nuts, are spicy, mild, vegan or are vegetarian is always appreciated!
It is handy if business cards are available so that people can keep a record of the restaurants they want to revisit or recommend.
It is also useful if each table has clear information about specials, arrangements for booking group events, and any other options, such as whether children's highchairs are available. It is very useful to have some paper menus which can be taken home or to the office by customers for consideration by others. A good lunch special can bring work events your way with the help of paper menus.
Finally, please provide a few reasonably priced healthy options (with steamed veg, fish, complex carbohydrates, salads with virgin olive oil based dressings, etc.) as well as the more 'moorish' choices. This will cater to the priorities of many customers.
Best of luck & have fun with the business! |

Menus are critical from a marketing point of view. Not only from the presentation point of view but from the content point of view. A menu can make or break a restaurant. |

A cheap looking menu can put me off...... if you can't take care of something simple then what effort are you going to put into the cooking, sad but true. However a fluffy over the top full up menu would put me off. I like to go into a restaurant and be given a nice clean menu with great sounding meals (not too over the top with the descriptions) and clear pricing. |

depends on the type of restaurant. If its a fast food place then the menus aren't very important but if its a posh place you would expect the menus etc to be well produced and fit in with the setting. A cheap, shoddy looking menu wont really send out the right impression |

Menus must be easy to read and follow. Organization is very important to me. It also helps to have menus in large print for people who have difficulty reading small print. I know that it also helps to have pictures of the food to know if I will like the layout or not. |

I get annoyed when I have to put glasses on to read the menu because the print is so small, especially if the restaurant has low lighting too.
Also if laminated menu cards are used, then they should be kept clean, not left to get grubby. |

the designs are important but making sure everything is explained properly on the menus is more important....make sure that the designs of the documents match the decor in the restaurant.
good luck... |

I think if the menu is high quality it says a lot I can't stand it when there is a scrap of paper saying specials.....it's cheap. |

Most of these answers are blah, blah, blah.
Look make sure your advertisingahs the same tone and style as the restaurant you are opening.
If you have a elegant dining establshment then your menus and marketing should reflect that.
If you have a greasy spoon diner than it should reflect that.
Whatever you do, it should all be a flow with each part exhibiting the central qualites of the whole. |

a professional menu says alot and creates the right impression from the start.
the thing that annoys me is a menu overloaded with a wide variety. as g ramsay says keep it clear and simple |

Forget the menu. Just make sure the service is quick and the staff simle. |

It makes a lot of difference it shows what type of establishment you are running good or bad when I go for a meal I like a nice clean menu (not grubby or sticky ) to look at also the writing to be large enough for everyone to read I know a lot of people that can´t read a menu because of this and it must be printed professionally I never like to see pictures of meals like pizza or egg and bacon it´s a real turn off
I also like to get a business card when I leave so I have the telephone number to hand to book for the next time
Good Luck |
