How important is the logo in a new company/business?

I wish i was the first one to answer this. I love this subject.

Yes if you intend to be in business for a long run and grow the business.

No , if you do not have an intention to grow the business.

Explanation :- Logo like the previous few answers gives you and identity that people/ customers can identify. Very much like the name of the business. It will help them identify their preference/experience with the product service received.

However it goes beyond nice looking design and computer generated creativity that may look nice but soon to be dated. It takes talent, experience and direction.

Good crieteria's of a logo should somewhat be reflective of the product and services offered and the industry it is in. It also need to be of course attractive and eye catching. But more importantly trademarkable. Something unique and can be trademarked and reproduced in all sizes and looks good in colour and also monotone. It needs character , strength and also appeal that is timeless.

However when starting a new business one should not rush in creating a logo that is complex and expensive to reproduce. Very much like a mission statement, or vision statement. It needs to be well thought of and complete with its application.

You cannot afford to keep changing logo or your identity ever so often as it is a costly marketing expense and not to mention confusing for your customers.

WHen new focus on market penetration. Then focus on brand buiding. this is when logos and CI (Corporate Identity) comes to play. Usually this is better to be left to the professional designers that can read your business direction and philosophy. By that time you probably can afford this from the profits.

This is as short as i can summarise it. Hope this helps.
Mail me i you like this explanation and need more. I can go on forever on this subject.

I see the logo in a new company as an identity. Corporate colors that revolve around the logo...and as you build your branding, the logo is really the basis of what your customers will identify with in the long run.

So on a scale of 1-10 if i was asked to rate the importance of the logo, i'll rate it 10&more.

As stupid as this sounds, I think logos are very important. Life the Starbucks with that women on it, looks artsy and vibrant. But it catches the eye and differentiates it from every other coffee logo. Just my opinion.

The portance of a logo ? Not very, although it can set the tone for a site (examples below) Cooltext.com does them for free with basic logos, (play with the different styles) Check out the examples to see what I mean

This depends on your industry and target audience. The logo communicates the values of your brand and your product offering. If you are selling B2B commodities it's less important than if you're selling your own brand of cosmetics to consumers.

The logo in a new company business is very important. If you have a good logo it will attrack business,However if you don't have good management your logo will mean nothing.
The best advertising is (word of mouth!)
My grandfather had a grade eight education and was a very successful business man. His logo was, One of my sons will serve you! His business lasted over fifty years and went to the third generation.
Trusting my answer struck a note of interest, I remain...

Oh very important, especialy the name ( try to design it using words instead of an odd symbol. e.g. like, IBM, APPLE, NIKE, ADIDAS) in order for people to remember. Without a logo or an identity ( in terms of colours, typeface) to define your company's objectives, you wont be able to set a standard for your website, namecard, brochures and so on. Hope this helps :-)

Its very important. It is how your company will be recognized. A logo can say more than a thousand words about it, and you can bet that people will remember what the logo looks like before they remember those words.

A logo is your brand and will over time tattoo an image to your customers brain. Also the colors that are chosen is also very important.

Invest some money and have it done by a reputable company who can create a look that cant be forgotten. If you choose the cheaper route then you will pay in the long run.

A logo can be very important. It creates an image that people remember and relate in their own mind to your particular business.

Just think of the ones you recognize daily, like the Nike swoosh, the Chevrolet symbol, the McDonald arches... etc, etc, etc.

The most successful logos are simple, easily recognizable, and used repeatedly by their companies. They put them on adverstisements, letterheads, product labels, storefronts, or anywhere else they can. This way the logo stays in peoples' minds. Consumers tend to trust what they know, or what they think they know, even if it's a mere logo.

Logo's instill a sense of continuity in a company, a sense of pride in themselves, and this creates a positive image to the public.

I'd say a good logo is worth a lot these days.

Quite important. It is what people remember you by, like the verizon check mark, singular's orange guy, cheetos' chester cheetah. It seperates and helps people know what your business does.
