Depends on the website. You can just pay google to be first for certain keywords. That costs a fortune though.

Depends on the website. Mine was at the top withing two days of launching it because I made sure I picked a domain name that wasn't going to conflict with anyone else.

It really depends on the website and also for what keywords you want to be top for.

If your keywords are very competitive you will find that it can take sometime.

You can get to the top in a matter of weeks if you know what you are doing and your keywords are not too competitve. Otherwise it can be months.

There are many factors on how to get to the top of a search engine in the natural results (ie not in the sponsored links area). These include having good optimization, high quality content, links, and more.

The sponsored links area is like a cheating version cos you pay to be up there - but even then you need to optimise your ad. You only pay if people click on your ad.
