I believe they say it takes 3 times of seeing an ad to make someone notice it, 3 more times to remember it, 3 more times to act on it. Meaning a total of 9 viewings to have an effect. |

I'm assuming you mean for commercial products and services (as opposed to personal small ads).
My experience has always been that newspapers generate a far quicker response (typically same day) although sometimes still provide response for up to a week later. There are some variances on this however. For a typical response ad (for say motor insurance) where a responder has to call on seeing the ad, you may find that an ad placed in a Friday newspaper, or over the weekend, generates responses on the Monday, as people will hold off from making the call.
For magazines however the intake curve (the number of people making a telephone call or returning coupons) is much flatter and goes on longer. In a monthly magazine for example, you may continue to see response for up to two months later. Quite simply people hold onto the magazine for longer.
It's not to say however that magazines are better for adverting. Obviously a lot depends on the product/service and whether the advert is intended to generate a response, or is there to build the brand/increase awareness. Typically magazines have smaller circulations so in fact newspapers possibly give your advert a higher number of viewers, but you then trade this off against the fact that the response will be much shorter. Magazine and newspaper ads tend to be long term investments. Usually you wont get any calls/leads from them for at least a few months. But they get your name in peoples heads. Internet ads work a similar way. |

Depending on what you are promoting will determine it's affect. If you said 'gold watches for sale for $5' you are likely to get a quick response, very quick.
If it is normal advertising, you looking at 6 weeks before there is a good response, however effective advertising needs to be consistent and repeated regularly to be effective.
It does not matter which you choose, be it newspapers or magazines, it is depended on your product. If you sell hairspray for example, using a magazine or newspaper will be effective. The 6 week effect is the normal time and works in
newspapers or magazines. |

i would give the newspaper a couple of days. As for the magazine, it might take a little longer depending on what magazine you put it in. Hope this helps! |
