Dollar for dollar, if your business is local specific, the Yellow Pages is the first place you should spend advertising dollars. If you're a machining manufacturer, just a simple listing is fine but if you're a beautician, garage, financial planner, insurance agent, health clinic, HVAC company, etc., it pays more to place an effective ad in the Yellow Pages.
If you think about it, when the last time you had your heater go out or your roof leak in the middle of the night, did you hunt for a newspaper, billboard, RTA bus or turn on the TV/Radio to wait for the guy who advertises on those media? No, you grab the Yellow Pages and look up the ads for roof repair or HVAC technicians.
I placed ads in both my local Embarq book (utility book) and Yellow Book (aftermarket) and got a 60% more pull from the Embarq book over the Yellow Book. How do I know? I ASKED my customers which book they saw my ad in! |

i use online at work and home and keep the hard copy in my car for the maps of my city and to look up numbers in the car for work and personal business |

i find myself looking in the yellow pages, only to find i cant read the fine print, so i go to my computer and get the information i need. |

I do I put it in my car for when I need a number and don't feel like hearing music, I can find a number faster then they can, lol |

The answers you receive can bea greatly distorted. If the peson answering sells yellow page ads, the numbers will be inflated.
About 4 years ago we tracked all incoming calls to our office and asked how the 'caller' heard about our comany. We also kept record of our 'direct mail' ads. When the numbers were compiled we discovered our greatest response came from our own direct mail ads. Our closing ration was also higher on the same ads. YP calls did not produce the volume of incomeing calls expected.
When it was time to renew the YP the rep was shocked to see our numbers. We decreased the size of the YP ads and reduced our costs. We transferred the money to more direct mail ads and have jenjoyed a nice increase in sales. |

I use both if it is local i will look in the yellow pages in my phone book but if i am looking for something that is not in my phone book i will use the online yellow pages....i love them i dont know what i would do without the yellow pages...lol |

I still find the Yellow pages useful, but I prefer to use a search engine (Yahoo or Google). |

I would think that the majority of people (over 50%) use online search engines versus the Yellow Pages. However, we need to also realize that not everyone has a computer (or access to one) and of those who do have a computer, not all of them go online with it. There are still people who believe the internet is a scary place for sinners and criminals. Although laughable to us, it's a sad reality. :-)
The last time I used the yellow pages was at a hotel that didn't have internet.... it was annoying to do something manually. |

I actually used to work for the Verizon Superpages and you would be surprised at the numbers they generate for user's. That is why they are still able to charge such high prices for the advertising. When I say hi i mean like $30,000 for a full page color ad. Thats the cost of a car. And that only lasts for one year.
So to answer your question YES they do still get readers. |

I always use Yellow Pages if looking for somewhere for a specific job. Just habit I suppose. I don't use it for bedtime reading or anything!! |
