Usually a fairly low flat hourly rate, plus a commission per sale/referral.

I have done telemarketing from my home for 7 years. I have been with the same person/same company and Im the top paid rep for him. For all that I do I get 17.50 per customer. I also work for an insurance firm (N.A.S.E.) and I get 10.00 per customer. I do alot! Im very well trusted. I deal with personal info as well as info that most people dont like to talk about. I form schedules for all of my bosses reps, and I deal with personal things for each of my bosses for the travel needs and other things. Im looking into another one right now because I just got my Real Estate school all set up and Im about to get a job doing that from home as well. All telemarketing! I'll let you know the base pay on that as well If i choice to work for that company. Its a little hard to determine and set a price on what to pay. With the companies that I look at, im normaly looking for the job and there begging to hire me, so I can pretty much ask for what pay I want because of all that I can do and have done. I hope this has helped u out some.

That depends on the benefit that the telemarketer is bringing to you. Sales Production employees (regardless of how the compensation is structured) should be paid based on the amount of profit they bring to the table.
Two critical realities that often get overlooked in the quest for higher profits from a telemarketer or an attempt at fairness in pay.
If the profits from the telemarketers work causes an extremely high compensation program for them - pay it and continue to recruit better talent.
If the profits from telemarketing don't result in a workable wage for a telemarketer - forget your social conscience and look for another marketing method.
Typically in sales/marketing, you move from less personal contact to more personal contact as people move through the sales cycle. If you are using telemarketing to drive people TO your website - it's a bad use of resources.
If you are using telemarketers to follow up on your website leads - that would be more appropriate.
I have a strategy for how to develop leads - qualify them automatically - have them request a call from your telemarketer and then buy your high value services.
