My boyfriend is starting a business and I am trying to find information on the cost of placing a phone book ad but I can't find anything. All I have come across is the price of internet advertising. I would also like to place an paper ad in the phone book as well. How would I go about doing this and what is the average cost of a moderate sized ad? |

You need to contact a rep for your local phone book. Advertising is in all cases determined by reach (the number of people which your ad can be expected to reach) and also by size, and if you're doing color or B&W.
My experience is that phone book ad are outrageously expensive, and a 1/2 page 4 color ad can run about $850.00 per month. Thats right - ALL yellow page advertising, EVEN just a listing is charged PER MONTH, EVERY MONTH. My belief is that while you certainly do need to be in the yellow pages, besides the standard listing, maybe do a bold heading, but thats it (appx $50-$75 per mo). The rest is a waste of money. |

Well it depends, and you will need to do more research. Some have deals, like her ein Philly you can run the same ad in three papers for 3 days for like $30, something like that.
Make sure you are using the right marketing for your business to reach your potential customers. Keep in mind that most people are internet addicts and use the net (just like you did), to find informatin. Phone books are no longer a must have, in fact, I trash mine most of the time, with the internet and free 411, there is no need to have the big bulky book around.
You're best bet, is to find a budget and try to stick with it. Try constantcontact, which is free email marketing.
By some email lists
Ask you friends to spread the word
Post on craigslist.
Post on Google.
Use the internet basically. |

Call your local phone company & depending on the size add or just a yellow page 'listing' that is what they will go by for the cost. It usually isn't alot & for the most part your business will get money back many times over. Good luck to you & your b/f with this new endeavor! |

Well it depends. If you want a business phone book, the max cost is $50. A tiny phone book can cost as low as $10. |
