You can easily pay $200 or more for a small quarter panel and a year contract is usually required. The ad does stay for the whole year in most cases but you have to contact the publication at least a month or two before the next edition comes out if you want to cancel your ad or else you will be charged for the next edition. If you have a small 1 to 4 person business you may not want to use the yellow pages yet because they are so expensive. At the very least if you have a business phone line you will get a free listing in the yellow pages in the category you choose. Often for $10 or $20 extra a month you can add a line or two to you free listing to explain a little more about your services. This is a great way to go if you have a small budget. another benefit will be that you will also often show up on your local Internet yellow pages if you have a yellow page phone book listing. You can also consider that a basic website for your business can be way more inexpensive per month than a yellow book ad. I get more inquiries from people using the Internet than the phone listing I had before.

Costs depend on size of listing, and on the total circulation of each city's directory. You need to direct your inquiry to the book you are interested in using. There are many such directories, and costs and discount practices vary among them.

There are sites online where you can list for free. With many people using the internet these days rather than a phone book this could be a good option. See http://www.localbusinessguide.com.au which is free for Australian businesses.

Instead of paying add or display in the yellow pages, why not give some free service or products to other people so that at least you know they are having a 'hands on' with your service/product ^^
