SpeakTruthToPower | How much should I pay someone to create a website for me? |
I want to show my art work, and sell it as well. I would like a site that I can replace paintings on a weekly or monthly basis. I need help to make a professional looking site. Can anyone tell me what I should pay that is reasonable. Thank you. |

Jean,
I would say, make one yourself. Don't have any experience making a website? That's alright. I built my professional website through a web host that offers assistance through each step. It will save you a lot of money vs paying someone to do it. You also get the knowledge of how to maintain your site. Anyone who owns a successful site is continually adding things to make it better for the viewer. Also building your own site allows you to personalize it to a T. If you have the money to pay someone great. I would compare many offers to make sure you get the best for your money. Positioning and traffic are just as important as having a spot on the world wide web.
I am including the web host that I chose as my source. The have truly taught me a lot about building a website the right way. I hope this has helped. |

You can do it yourself if youve got Powerpoint , then you can save it ll a webpage, and upload to a free host site like Geocities maybe, youll have to use their FTP's .....you have to upload all your files, pictures and banners too. There are a few banner creation sites around these days, its all free, if you know where to look and the experience you gain making your own site will be another skill you can develop over time. |

Zero...don't do it.
Your art could be fantastic but the odds of selling it online are close to nil (unless you're already well establishing and folks are already searching for you).
There are HUNDREDS of 'sell your art' sites which charge you month after month because folks want to buy art IN PERSON...a picture of a painting just isn't going to make it.
Same with area rugs...another product that's next to impossible to sell online. |

Web sites are no longer as important as just having many pieces of online content. This brings me to your point of wanting to replace content periodically. Why? I would recommend quite the contrary. Each of your pieces has its own audience and prospective buyers. Why must it be taken down to put another up? And to that end, why not give each piece its own page. Hopefully you're still with me because what I'm proposing is two things. One is to make use of WordPress.com, blogger.com, etc. to create an easy to maintain blog site. Instead of creating journal entries, you would be attaching your picture with a detailed description (careful to use strategic keywords that people who would be interested in the piece will be using when searching online). And secondly, upload these same pictures (water-marked?) to flickr, Picassa and other public-facing picture sites. You will be able to caption your pictures including links to your web site where they can discover how to purchase them.
In short, each piece needs to be able to attract its audience on its own. And you are not restricted to promoting your pieces just on your site. Oh, and all of the above resources are available for free. W00t!
Follow the link below, check out others who are doing this. Click on their profiles and follows the links to their web sites. Hopefully more inspiration will follow.
Good luck.

Go to ifreelance.com and post your project. Explain in detail exactly what you want. Then sit back and watch the bids roll in. |

I know of a young Internet marketeer who has developed a scripted "Easy Button" to create a blog site. He offers nearly a dozen blog site templates with Google Adsense ads, YouTube space, and more. In addition he has developed a team of budding and experienced Internet entrepreneurs who help each other succeed individually. The team members review and critique each others site postings. He is not free, but he does offer a money back guarantee. There is a review of this concept at replacingmydayjob.com. Take time to study the review and decide for yourself. |

Hi, Jean!
Wow, I can't help but be excited for you to be able to start your website and business selling your artwork!
I'll build the site for you for $150 just because I'm so excited...
Otherwise, you have a few options:
1. Buy one on eBay (Pretty cheap, and quick!)
2. Make one yourself (Make sure it looks professional!)
3. Hire the local web designer (expensive!)
4. Hire someone from GetAFreelancer.com to build it (A LOT cheaper than number 3)
It's a simple process, but there's a lot involved.
I hope this helps!
