How should I sell a Laptop?
Well I want to switch over to a macbook and I have a laptop thats just under a year old that I want to sell. What would be the best way to go about this? I really don't want to go through eBay because I probably won't get what I want. I made some fliers that I am posting around town (small town) Any other way to get word out? I want to sell locally.
I get the impression you are very concerned about selling your laptop for a fixed amount? To get the most money possible for your item, your best bet is probably to sell it in a marketplace where there is a lack of pricing information (i.e. where buyers are not informed and knowledgeable). eBay is very accurate in pricing for most items due to the bidding environment. Sure sometimes items close higher or lower than average closing prices, but generally the closing prices are very fair--this is due to buyers placing the absolute highest bid (the most they are willing to pay). You may have luck on craigslist or a local classified, but it really all revolves around the demand for your particular laptop. If it is a hot item, people will likely pay a hot price for it. Otherwise, it may not sell. I would recommend your first step is to figure out what your laptop is worth, realistically. Most people think their stuff is worth much more than it really is. Just because you paid $2000 for the laptop a year ago, doesn't mean you can still get $1500 today. Some items depreciate more rapidly than others. There are two sites to check out... one is http://www.terapeak.com and the other is http://www.jaybrokers.com/search . Both sites give nice reports to help you know what your laptop is worth, realistically. You can also do a completed items search on eBay (it is free for all eBay members) -- just check the "completed items" checkbox. Be sure to sift through all the irrelevant data such as the fraudulently bid items, outliers, etc.
