For the job one level above the one you are interviewing for.
Do a bit of research if you can, by standing outside the location at lunch or quitting time and seeing if its a casual place or a formal one.
Since you want to make a good impression, you want to wear clothes that aren't objectionable to the majority of people.
Skirts and dresses would take care of any Neanderthal men who are still in the girls wear dresses mindset, and dark simple, well cut clothes will let you shine instead of your fashion sense. Easy on the makeup too.
And wear good shoes, it really makes a difference.
Of course this is for office work, if its a service job, its more relaxed, and if its for a fashion job its more trendy.

If this is for a professional position: Knee length skirt with a matching jacket and a solid color shirt. They say you should keep it to like a blue shirt or white, but I like to jazz it up with something like a fuschia or lime green. Just so the interviewer can remember me. Usually, dark colors are best but times are changing and earth tone colors go over quite well.
You can wear a pant suit as well but make sure you have pleats in the pant and that the suit is not tight. Sometimes for a pant suit earth tones go over as well.
Closed toed shoes...no "ands," "ifs," or "buts." Heel should be no more than 2 inches.
Basically, you'll know if the outfit is not correct if you ask someone "how do I look." You'll know that you are rocking the outfit if you walk out the house feeling just right. |
