I want to start a small "business" helping elderly people with basic computing. I say business, but i would just want to advertise an offer for my help as i dont suppose i will make barely any money from this therefore i dont plan to have an office etc, just run it in an informal manner.
So how would i go abouts advertising helping the elderly (obviously international and national advertising would be stupid to do), i just want to advertise locally and for a minimul cost. |

Try your local radio station that plays music or talk that age group likes.
Maybe your local paper...don't let cost be a factor as advertising (if done properly) has an excellent return on investment. |

You could try putting up flyers, and using your local radio and television station. you can also use online classified ads sites, as many of them are free and are great sources of advertising. many of the sits give you the option to advertise locally or internationally so it's all uo to you.. |

Hey Dean, that's an interesting idea. I would start by contacting your local retirement, assisted living, nursing home communities and do some "market research". Has there been a need/want expressed? If not, maybe they would put something in their newsletter or bulletin board to advertise your services and see what kind of response you get???? Are there sources already available to them (e.g. community colleges, etc. that offer similar type of service already for free?). Contacting your local churches as well (advertise in their newsletter/bulletin board). This would be a way to "get the word out" to a large "audience" to see what kind of feedback you get.
You could also approach your local community education office and maybe even the elementary, middle, high schools and see if you could offer a class. These places would already have the equipment available???
There's so many ways to advertise locally for free or very low cost but that's where I would start. HTH |

Give a free mini seminar in a retirement community. The seminar should peak their interests and leave them wanting more, but not give everything away. If they want to learn more they have to sign up for your services. Offer a discount when they sign up with you at the seminar. Also offer a referral fee when someone they referral to you COMPLETES your class you give them a referral fee. Depending on what you charge for the class you referral fee could be anywhere from $5.00 - $20.00. You could also let them use the referral fee as a discount on one of your other classes.
If your town offers community education classes sign up to be an instructor. If not, start your own classes. Make sure you have several levels of classes for every student ie beginner, intermediate and advanced etc...You could offer numerous classes: how to use the internet, how to pay your bills online, how to avoid internet scams, how to email etc...Your options are almost endless.
