How to advertise guitar lessons ?

i want to start teaching guitar because ive been looking for a job everywhere and no luck and teaching guitar is something i feel i can do. I was just wondering how can i advertise that im teaching to get students.

You need local customers in your area, so the best way is the following...

1) Get a free line entry in your local BT Phonebook, Thomson Local and Yellow Pages... use the following links to register with them.

2) Design and print a couple of hundred leaflets to distribute throughout your area... ask in local shops, newsagents, Library, Hairdresser's/Barber's, Post Office, supermarkets etc if they have a community wall to put your leaflet up on. 3) Get a list of all your local Guitar/Music shops and pop in to speak to them... they will normally pass your details on to people who ask (Unless they offer the service themselves.).Search 'Music Shops' in your town on http://www.thomsonlocal.com

4) Speak to and Leaflet your local schools and colleges.

5) Don't be afraid to speak to other music teachers... they can advise you or even pass you work if they are too busy? Search for 'Music Teacher' in your town on http://www.thomsonlocal.com

6) Register on http://www.bttradespace.com where you can upload video, blog, pictures and make it a mini website for yourself... and it is FREE!

7) Aldi will be selling Acoustic and Electric Guitars for Xmas in the next week or so... get your leaflets done and get down there at 9.00am on the Thursday or Sunday when they have their offers and give them out to anyone walking out of the shop with a guitar... Should set you up nice for lessons in January??!!! You should make a brief Youtube video displaying your guitar skills and also say a few encouraging words for beginners/potential students. Then place a link to this video on one of the sites like the others have mentioned like Craigslist and maybe make some flyers with the link as well. I am guessing if you are a musician you can use photoshop to make a decent flyer or at least know someone who could do it ( you artsy types tend to stick together ;-) ).

Post details on noticeboard at library, or supermarket, or at local music equipment store. Do you have a local newspaper? Try an ad, or persuade them to write an article. In UK and Ireland, ads are free in buyandsell.co.uk and buyandsell.ie. You may have something similar where you live. Print out a flyer and give to local schools. And good luck!!

Craig's list is a good idea, but you might also want to make up a professional looking flyer's and contact local music stores and see if you can put you flyer's up with them.
Also get some business cards and do the same thing, put them up in local restaurants, coffee shops, anywhere you will get noticed.
I do band management/promotion so any place I go that has a board for business cards I put mine up. It works well.

Craigslist is always a good start. I am always suprised at how many people look for stuff there. And it's free. You can always take an ad out in your local paper too. And if local stores have bulletin boards, put up flyers!
