How do I advertise my Bath & body company for free or almost free?
Right now financially we aren’t doing well. I have a 9-5 job & my husband is out of work. On the side I have a small online company where I sell soap, lotions, shower gels, bath bombs, bath salts, and much more.
I have tried eBay. Search for handmade soap in eBay and you get like 2,000 hits. Some of them as low as .50 cents. My soap is handmade takes hours to make and I have worked on my formula for 5+ years. How can I compete with 50 cent soap when mine is $5.00 a bar? Plus all the fees they charge?
I have tried etsy. And it’s similar. 20 cents to list but there is often 900+ listing for soaps there. People at my 9-5 job are suffering themselves (they work on commission - bad market)
I do make a natural anti-acne soap that works better than some of those chemical lines. Its my best seller but i don't sell enough to purchuse new supplies
Anyone out there know of anywhere to advertise for (almost) free?

Yes, it is difficult marketing a soap company. Many people go into handmade soap and candles in tough to make ends meet. Some ideas:
1: Make sure your packaging is very good.
2. Try to Get a celebrity endorsement and customer testimonials.
3. Align your self with one "cause" and donate a part of the proceeds. Have the group(s) promote you.
4. Approach high end boutique clothing stores and promote the idea to the owners that your soaps are gift with purchase for their clients.
5. You already received some ideas about web marketing, I am going to offer some other ideas. Even though the all of the above can also be done on the web, as well as at brick and mortar locations.

Let me help! I have a proposal.... You give me the link to your site, I'll look over it, and then I'll write some reviews about it and submit it to some sites I know are in high rank with all search engines. I can get you some advertising! The only thing I will ask of you is to make a trade for it. I have 2 sites that could use a little linking. If choose one of the site links to put on your site anywhere... I will write some reviews. The same goes for anyone who needs a little help advertising.
The 2 sites are either a shopping site, similar to amazon. The second in an xbox 360 gaming review site.

You are doing it now... by going online and asking this question you are promoting your business, which is great.
The trick to being a success is doing it all at once, building a buzz about yourself and your company, both locally and online.
The problem with anything offered for free is obvious, anything that seems too good to be true usually is.
In my area, there are a lot of crafts shows which allow people like yourself to purchase a table and set up shop. You might be surprised at how much you can make at a craft show or a kiosk at the mall. Certainly, the idea of setting up a physical shop, with lots of traffic can help you to generate initial sales.
Your packaging is important as well, make sure that you have a good clear message about ordering more from your website.
Hell, you may even want to create tiny little sampler soaps with a copy of your URL embossed on the soap! |

Hi Soapmaker! I see you have trouble advertising your soap. It's best that you have a website, a really good website that shows the benefit of your soap, what makes it better than the rest, as you say it's $5. You gotta make your "What's in it for me (customer)?" works. Have someone near you to buy your product first, have them tested out. If they're happy with it, ask them kindly to write a review about your soap and post it on the internet. One way you can get customer to your site is by signing up Google Adword. make your advertisement like "Acne Free In Less Than 2 Days" then state the benefits of your product. Well I hope i have helped you in some ways.
