As with ALL managers, REMEMBER your people !!!!! They are what make you strong, Depend on their knowledge, listen to them, don't be over-bearing.
Your people know more about their job than you do. Listen to them. Don't be too proud to ask them why they do what they do. Let them explain it to you.....LEARN from then. Respect them!!!!! |

I actually think that rather than just listening to your employees you have to lead them b/c you have the eperience and the ability to provide direction for success.
Honestly, best way to be a good manager is to know your "stuff," be a great mentor by helping your team success at achieving your division's goals as well as their personal career goals and being a strong (not always popular) leader. Your team will respect you for that, and that is more significant to them and you that just liking you. |

The most important quality in a manager, be it sales and marketing or any other field is to listen to your employees. They are the one's in the "bush", and know what works and doesn't work. |

You will have to "objectively feel" your associates and "zone in" on the strengths that promotes your projects. You will have to give up sleeping more than 3hr/day for many months to accomplish this. know what you are talking about. listen to your associates. encourage discussion and creativity. don't ask your people to do something you are not willing to do. in sales ,many times, a green trainee will make the best salesperson if you are a good trainer and he or she is willing to follow directions. but, watch out they may reach the point to where they "know it all". when morale is low and you notice your team huddled up tell them to disperse and stop pissing on each others leg. most of all respect to be respected. |
