I'm looking for sure fire, free ways to drive some traffic to my website. I havent had too much luck with Google as it is just to darn competitive. So how about someone gives me a plan on how and where I can get free traffic?

Getting traffic is a combination of a lot of things. The key to success is to create great content that visitors want to use, search engines will love and other websites will naturally link to. Of course, it's easier said than done.

I agree with all of the responders except where they advise paying for anything other than the physical website.

Do not pay for website traffic at any time. How much free traffic you get from Google,Yahoo, MSn or any others of them depends largely on the quality of your content....period.

There is no sure fire way to get guaranteed traffic, particularly if it is free and/or your are unwilling to pay for it. Rankings can take a few months even after you have optimized pages. This is because search engine marketing companies (and yourself, i assume) do not control search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN Live Search Engines. In addition, why would you do it yourself when you can get a professional who knows what they are actually doing?

I would suggest that you come up with a plan that does paid advertising as a short-term and then for a long-term plan do the optimization and submission.

You may want to consider some simple algorithms which, when observed and committed in designing of a website with placement of various critical metatags that can surely achieve a high search engine presence and increase Internet traffic to your website. 1. Go to Google's search engine.
2. At the search entry, type in the words "ecommerce tutorials seo" [and of course, leave out the quotes ["]
3. Hit "Enter."
4. There will appear some 1.67 MILLION search results.
5. Check out the No. 2 search entry "Welcome to Downtown L.A." which currently uses the above-referenced algorithms to achieve their FIRST PAGE position.
