If you publish a website the first thing you have to do is submit it into the search engines.
I tell you the truth dont waste your time in free submissions.It will not work for your website .Because submiting is not a big issue.If you submit your site for free you will never know the problems that your website is facing.
There are many other issues like Meta-Tag Keywords in your site,using of keywords,using of title,page size,download time of page,page size and many more issues.

search directories to provide them with goods and
services. In a sense, these search directories are a
very large Internet Yellow Pages.
Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage
fail to contain "generic" keywords, then anyone using
such "generic" queries will not be able to discover
your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website,
in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.
You may want to consider some simple algorithms which,
when observed and committed in designing of a website
with placement of various critical metatags that can
surely achieve a high search engine presence and
increase Internet traffic to your website. These
metatag strategies work well with published webpages
at Google and Yahoo.
Placement of Metatags:
A ranking or search order does take place with Google
and Yahoo and it begins with the "Title" metag which
should consist of no more than 65 characters separated
by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic
terms, the goods and services, followed by a location
from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state.
The placement of a domain name which is not generic
within the "Title" is not appropriate, unless your
domain name is a major recognizable brand name.
The second metatag is the "Description" which is
usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which
best describes one's goods and services.
And the very last category - "Keywords" are also
somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural
and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which
is defined as the loading, and submission of
repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
"Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported
to Google's spamreport.com can result in the
elimination of your website from their search
directory.
Here's an example of a very highly-placed website on
Google.com: Begin with the very "generic" search query
"sandwiches downtown los angeles," taking note to not
abbreviate Los Angeles to "LA" and of course, leave
out the parentheses ("). It will bring up some 427,000+ search results. Check out where "Nazos.net"
is ranked. It's ranked no. 1!
Again, Nazos.net's high web presence was achieved by
proper web design and placement of relevant metatags
according to Google's publication guidelines.

First you create a concept. Your concept has to be something people are looking for or want information on. If you have a site on splorks and only 25 people a day are searching for splorks, guess what, you will never get tons of traffic.
If you find that splorks can help you save money, then you might get thousands if you do the next step.
Create
Create a content rich site. People on the web are not looking for you so that they can give you their money. They want information. Why do people come here. Info.
Clicks
Next comes the Clicks or traffic.
You build traffic by doing several things. If your a local business you need to do local search engine optimization. What key words are people typing in their browsers?
Submit to the directories. Only the free ones. Start with the lowest page rank ones. This is because after you learn the ropes, you will be able to improve the process.
Also, do not submit if a back link is required. That negates the link to your site.
Also start posting meaningful posts to blogs. Make your comments relevant to the blog. Search for blogs related to your business. Do not make them ads or say in effect, come give me your money. People are not coming to the web to give you their money. They are here for information.
There are link exchanges you can get in with. Only use relevant links and they have to have information that will benefit your visitor. Your link needs to be in the context and not on a link page.
There are dozens of ways to get traffic.
Confidence
Once you start to get some traffic, you now need to build confidence.
This is where you find out what the visitor wants and start providing even more information.
Conversion
Then and only then, you cash in or go for the conversion.
This process can be done for the cost of your time. My public speaking web site gets 4-700 visitors a day in the summer. Starting in September it jumps to 1000 a day. For my little business, this is good.
