The problem your site may have is that it's a subdomain.
For your site to be recognised by major search engines i.e. Google, you will need a designated domain. Have you thought of doing this? There are really inexpensive hosting companies out there, I particularly like nearlyfreespeech.net, they offer a pay per bandwidth option which is really cheap.
Once you have a registered domain it's just a matter of transferring all your articles from your present subdomain to new domain.

Simple website optimization will help you. Try to make your Meta tags (title, description, keywords) more accurate. They should be descriptive of your website content.
