How to get traffic to a site?

Ok i have a new poetry site, i have listed it in searches and in poetry listings and did a couple link exchanges. what more can i do that doesnt caost money to get more traffic to my. is that the only way to get rea;;y good traffic to your site is if you pay money for advertising and stuff like that? how long after your site is up and running will you see if its a hit or not my site just got opened october 1st......well i guess i can still wait to see what'll happen

There are many ways to drive traffic to a site without spending any money.
