Your blog doesn't seem to be there anymore... Here are some general tips for improving blogs though. My first suggestion would be to ensure that you update the content regularly. A number of search engines see regular content updates as a favourable sign. If you only add comments once every three to four months, then your blog will not be seen. As search engines are generally gatekeepers to this kind of information, you should try to ensure that your content is as visible as possible.
I would recommend linking to a number of similar, relevant blogs. Look around. Use a blog search engine to find blogs similar to yours and comment on their material. If you manage to create a dialogue with these people then they may similarly link to your blog and comment on your material. Again, the more links you have, the more visible your blog becomes.
There are many good books around at the moment talking about blogs. Consider 'Citizen Marketers', 'Groundswell', 'Marketing to the Social Web' etc. Although these are generally aimed at helping organisations to improve their web presence, the methods for improving blog performance are generally universal.
My final suggestion would be to only blog if you are genuinely passionate about something. A real pasion for what you are discussing will invariably show through, and will be both informative and interesting to the reader. As you encourage chatter about your blog, take on board what people are saying. Address any negative comments that people have.
One more thing, remember that your blog is an expression of self. If people tell you to shut it down, ignore it! As my previous point suggests though, take on board any criticism and try to resolve the problems identified. |
