I recently was hired by a retail establishment as a salesman my pay is strictly commision. Anyone have any suggestions on how to drive more business to me. As of now I am dependant upon waiting for customers to come to my store. this is just not getting it done. I need some sugestions on how I can drive customers into my store and more importantly to me. How can I do this |

Yes, very simply do this first;
1. Write a goal down for let's say weekly/monthly/and 6 month goal sale commission you want to make. Now you got the total.
2. Now that you know your total, ask yourself how many of such and such you need to sell to get that income.
3. Now, that you know, write down how many clients you need to see. The law of averages if you're really good is 4 our of 10 customers say yes. If your average sales person, let's say 2 clients or contract sold out of 10 people you see.
4. Now, the crunch. Know your clientele, where they'll hang around, and get your business cards ready. Know your products or whatever your selling.
5. Go out there and start meeting people. Build relaionships. GFo to cafes, everywhere and say, "hi" to as many people and get talking about them. Ask what they do and....wait for it when they ask what you do.
Now, when they ask you that, say with a big smile, "I got my own store, I sell....."
And rest is upto you.
Don't wait for customers, go out there in world and meet people, chat to them, and work it so they always ask, "so what do you do."
Trust me, it works. Read books on networking, building relationships, communications. You'll enjoy it more and you'll be more productive than sitting in your shop and....you won't need to pay advertising but feel good inside you've done it yourself, and....people get to know YOU!
People don't buy the shop or clothes, but because they liked how you talked to them, they remembered you because you was courteous and....you found out their needs.
Give them also an incentive and ask..
"I know so many compete with your custom. Give me the opportunity to show you what I have in my store."

If you can't get customers to buy from you when they 1st talk to you, convince them (through special deals or treating them well) that they should come back to talk to you. In retail sales, this is very difficult. |

I've been there so I totally understand the frustration. I ended up living partially on commission and partially on credit cards when things were slow. I am still paying on those credit cards. There are a few ways that I can help you answer your question. The first thing to point out is there is no one single answer. You have to diversify your actions to increase your chances. I read a book called "Marketing Without Money" by Nicholas E Bade that I got from the library that will help you and your company with lower cost tips to advertise a business. Check it out. (Library humor: check it out). How are the other employees doing? What are the other employees doing? Sometimes copying the most successful people will help you. Do you have freedom of pricing? Is your product a reordered product or just a one time purchase? You can establish rapport and ask for referrals to your customers and their friends if they ask for you... can you give a discount? Alot of the answers depends on the products you are talking about. Can you ask your boss for access to close out items to sell on Ebay on your own time? You see, it's had to give concrete answers without knowing a little more about your situation. Being on commission only is good and bad. You can make more money on commission but it's a matter of good month, bad month with the income. That's much like owning your own business so the best way to answer you is... how would you increase sales if you owned the business? Think that way and you'll be fine. |

think of making a friend before making a sale. you'll find that people will be more at ease with you (and thus more likely to spend money;) )when they feel that you see them as a person rather than a customer. "people don't rember what you said or what you did. They remember how you made them feel." Don't be afraid to make suggestions and ask questions (to get a better picture of what they are looking for). Most importantly, remember that everyone loves to buy but, no one wants to be sold to. |
