The old adage is its easier to sell more to an existing client than find a new customer! Other than that, it is a case of marketing - if you have to ask such a basic q than suggest you speak with a marketing agency that can help direct your strategy (what to do) and then do it for you. or just grab and try other peoples, so retail - buy 2 get one free for volume sales etc |

well I've run my own business for 30 yrs the best return was always Yellow pages, until this year when they made a total cock up on my advertising. I spent two hours on the phone yesterday and felt like i was talking to a brick wall, they accepted that they had made a mistake but said i was liable for the cost, i don't think this is the way I'd run my business . So if you decide you want to advertise like that, then make sure you ask every question you can to make sure they haven't missed anything, because they really don't value your business, just your money. Promotions and marketing is simply getting the word out about your products and services. If you are new provider, you have to start by meeting people and asking questions. Asking the question "Do you know someone who..." will open some doors to getting prospects and maybe getting that person's curiousity open as to what you are selling.
Talk with other business people. A good way to meet people is to join Networking Groups. This can be done locally at your local Chamber of Commerce. You can also go to Networking events which are advertised in your local paper or through your radio station. If you want to meet people online, you can do so by setting up a MySpace page, or join other groups like Facebook.com, Squidoo.com, and Digg.com.
Don't directly advertise your products and services, but ask everyone you know and everyone you meet if they know someone who's looking for your products or services. That's a start.

It's easier (and more importantly cheaper) to sell to an existing client, than 'seduce' a new one.
I find that direct mail is the best single method to promote sales. It can be as cheap or as expensive as you like, you can do it in-house or get an outside agency to do it. I would suggest that an outside agency would be best if the budget allows. But do check references. talk to some of their current clients if possible to get a feel for the company and how they work, as some are WAY better than others!
if you're not sure about how direct mail works, then think about all the junk mail that you get! Sky and Virgin media constantly stick stuff through my door, the political parties stick flyers through my door at election time, and my bank always send me stuff about insurance, loans etc etc with my bank statement.
A marketing plan concerning how you plan to go about this would be a good idea. Make sure you stick to it though, esp. timescales and budgets. Check out my source for more info. |

It depends on how much you have to spend. If you have a tiny budget, do grassroots marketing which means getting out there, handing out flyers, business cards, putting up posters, word of mouth..etc.
You can also shoot a television commercial that is specified to your neighborhood. It will be low quality, but you would be surprised how many people you will reach.
Try valpak (those coupons that come in the mail), you can go to their website and contact someone about offering coupons in their next batch. (also cheap) |
