How to start a small cafe?

i already know the business side of it.. im just getting a survey of what really clicks in a cafe.. what kind of atmosphere..homey place like country homes kitchen type, or kinda of the "friends" cafe type..a friend told me to make a cyber computer shop type cafe..well.. nice idea but i would still consider the maintenance of those computers and im not really a wiz in computers and that would mean added money out..i would really appreciate your insights...big thanks!

something that stands you out from the other cafe's in town--may not be a big deal for other people, but trust me you need to give people a reason to come to YOUR cafe and not the one down the street from their apartment/house. Make it:

- comfy/relaxing--where ANYONE can chyll
- coffee- the best in town--& cheap.
-food that other cafe's may not have
-atmosphere- you should have a "theme" and design your tables/couches/walls-pictures/paintings to that theme.
-A cafe where ANYONE and EVERYONE feels welcome [not attentively to ONE niche (youngers,seniors etc)

Just make it unique in your own way...and you'll be fine. =]

I just sold mine, but am planning on opening another. I don't know where you are or what the competition is like. You may want to see what you could do better than your competitors. Or is there some market niche they haven't filled?

A few things I would strongly recommend: an espresso machine, a liquor license, and free wireless internet.

Somethng comfy and fairly quiet. A computer cafe could be done with only a couple of PC's and free wireless access. With something like that, your menu would probably be limited, but coffee, smoothies, and pastries would do really well.

Well I would say, first you got to know how to cook some food, then I think you can go from there.

I would defenitly want the homey feel to the cafe. I want it to be a very comfortable enviroment I can envision my ideal cafe it would be dimly litten with fine shiny tables and a nice comfotable chairs with some leather chairs sitting in the corner. No sunlight in the inside its quiet you hear people talking quietly to eachother and you hear soothing music in the background. Music is a big thing maybe some nice classical music with the volume low. I would really appreciate how clean it is inside the cafe and how comfortable it feels.

I want it to be artistic with many elabortate paintings on the wall and maybe a nice little tv on with volume muted a channel such as the local news would be interesting. The thing I would like is to make the cafe look different then any other in town. In order to suceed you must differeintate yourself from the competion.

Also people would like it if you ordered the newspaper to your cafe everyday so they would have something to read while they drink their fav cup of coffe..

Everyone has a computer why go to a cafe for it..... I love the homey atmosphere not to busy that you feel like you can relax at and take your time...... So stick with your gut you sound like you have a good thing going... Shoot for the moon and you will at least land among the stars!
