If I were you I would try to keep from spending money. Use word of mouth. Get the people you have worked for to spread the word, use friends and family....keep banking your money and then maybe try to advertise but word of mouth should do for a while. Try to get your customers to sign contracts for a longer time period than just booking one cleaning at a time. This will guarantee more long term business. You may already do this though...This approach tends to build relationships which will go a long way.
Referrals bring peace of mind to potential buyers. Try to keep from spending money, you may find that you will get busy enough without the expenditure. |

All those answers are really good. But don't forget your local newspaper. The newspaper is where basically "everyone gathers." Plus it shouldn't be that expensive; prbbly the least expensive advertising you can do. I'm starting a biz too. Good luck. |

Hi Wendy, if it's office cleaning you have in mind then join the local Chamber of Commerce, does not cost a great deal and not all high flying executives types of people go there, great place to give out Biz cards.
Keep everything local! take up Free membership at a gym and give out your cards there.If you have children then the local school is a good place.Go to a SBA meeting and promote your business there too (no cost) Biz cards in shops also works.
I would say forget the YP book it's high cost small return and you probably don't have the budget anyway.

You weren't specific, but let's consider you do house cleaning, rather than a janitorial service that cleans offices. Or window washing. So let's say that you do one of these or all three. If you had a house, office or windows that needed to be cleaned, where would you go?
Perhaps check the Internet, so be sure to get a cheap website, eventually.
But more likely, you would pick up the local Yellow Pages. I doubt you would read every ad in the newspaper or wait for a direct mail flyer. And they are far more expensive anyway.
The nice thing about the Yellow Pages is that that they have ads for every budget (even yours), are never thrown out and are in everyone's home or office. It gives the best high return for the least investment. (in spite of what other answerers who never sold or tracked YP ads might say) You can offer a discount is you want and remember. People with a need, go there first. Call your local rep for a free evaluation. |

What is your target audience? Where would there gather or live?
Try give flyer in that area so that it will be more effecient than town area like bugis(where teenage gather)? Ask some shop owner if they willing to place your flyer on their shop(yes people do that in the cd shop i work)? How about placing an advertisement on newspaper? "spam" your service in famous local forum like hardwarezone.com.sg might work too.
or may be you can try something creative. Remember the white elephant issue? you can use similar way, try enquire the detail with SLA_Enquiry@sla.gov.sg Singapore Land Authority?
It's hard to start a business but once you got your regular customer everything will be fine. |

I think first you have to know who is your target customers for example suppose your target customers are families, you can use leaflet distribute to every houses in that town. and the cost of leaflet is not expensive you can use copy machine. and the other way use website simultaneously. you have to guarantee your service quality. you have to create trustworthy to your customers. then you will enjoy with the power of the word of mouth. good luck. |
