Here are some online and offline tips on marketing your book:
* Create a blog solely for Book Promotion and keep it updated.
* At online forums, give great answers to questions related to the topic of your book and advertise your book. They might find your suggestions, tips, answers so helpful that they might decide your book could give them more.
* Partner with independent resellers which have products related to your book.
* Choose a distributor that has already established a presence in the market place.
* When taking tours, don't just go to bookshops. Example if you have a book on pets, visit pet shops as well. More people who would take interest in your book would most likely be found there.

It depends on the type of book you want to market. is it technical, professional thematics, lifestyle orientation, etc. i buy books if they are approved best sellers with good recommendations or sometimes i buy spontaneously like browsing amazon and hey this is a nice book. |

Who is the target audience for your book? One size doesn't fit all.
Focus on your niche. WHY would they care about your book? WHAT insights do you add to their lives?
Do you have an interesting story to tell that can generate good PR? Have a friend interview you and post the interview in many places online where your niche reads. |

You start with asking the publisher what they're doing. You both try to get as much media coverage as possible.
First contact your local radio, tv and newspapers. They're always interested in local authors. Then do the regional media. Then maybe the momentum will get national attention.
If this is non-fiction, you also let news and feature editors know you are a local expert should they need someone to speak about that field. And you watch the news to try to make as my tie-in connections as possible.
You work any associations that would be interested in your field. And contact local groups offering to speak at their monthly meeting.
Is your book in stores? let the owners know you are available for a book signing and/or reading.
Contact your local writers' group.
Keep at it. A young friend of mine recently had a small book published on cricket. It's such an amusing book he has been reviewed in all the major British papers - The Times, Guardian, Independent, etc. - and gotten international attention. I was flying on Icelandair and just about fell out of my seat when I saw their inflight magazine had reviewed the book! Now, he's about to sign with a major publishing house.
Writing the book is the easy part - selling it is where the true are comes in. |
