Think about any of your parent's friends who own small businesses - they could even be doctors or lawyers.
That's usually the best place to start.
They'll have a hard time turning you down, because you'll be coming in under their radar.
If you need to give an additional argument, just say that many of the parents also read the yearbook, so it is a great place to advertise.

Don't sell ad. Sell solutions.
Find the needs of your customer and that will sell the ad.
For example, people will advertise drills. Not much good but if they sell, "we got tools to make holes.." they will sell their drills.
Find out the needs of the customers you are aiming at and you'll be surprised how fast you sell your ads.

Don't wait to sell it by itself, you need to find a costumer. Think about it and make a list of all possible costumers/publishers. After that call them and give them the best offer that you can, beat your competition and that's it. But before doing anything make a list and a plan. Good luck :)
