Honest answer? I wouldn't. Who goes to myspace to look up bikes? The sad truth is you're gonna have to spend money to make money. It hurts, but if you do your research you'll come out ahead. Don't set an advertising "budget". That is pointless since the whole point of marketing to MAKE money...not spend it.

The best place to go is a directory where people are actually looking for what you do specifically in your area. Let me know if you have any other questions.

First of all market yourself, not your company.

Talk about yourself a bit, then mention you sell bikes. Then tell them how you can help your visitors.

This works really well if you do it right. After all people buy from people not companies. They honestly don't care about your company, so make them care about you.

You can get free video training on social networking at
http://ya.automatic-money-system.com

Once you have your profile set up, you can contact people who might be interested in buying a bike (just don't mention that when you contact them). Look for people who are interested in adventure, environment, sports,...

Good luck!

I'd use case studies/stories: start a contest and ask for the best stories from real people on bikes (for work, for pleasure, learning to ride, over 70 and learning to ride; under 20 and learning to ride - mix it up and get people engaged and involved).

For example, I can remember learning to ride on my mother's bike. I was only 9 years old (and short); my mother was tall and had a big bike. To start up on the bike, I had to drag it to the stairs of our house and climb up to the second step and try to leap on the seat before the bike tipped over. You can imagine I had a lot of spills before I learned how to ride.

You could also set up an online survey: e.g. top 5 buying criteria (size, brand name, style, etc.). The social networking site could provide the link to the survey site. Once you've got people participating they will be more open to your sales effort.

However I would say that you might be better off to focus more on regional marketing (unless you plan to ship your bikes globally). You might link or associated with other fitness and/or transit sites and try to promote jointly. You might contribute to blogs and forums. There are many effective marketing strategies to assess.

Good luck.
