Well, as others have posted, there are a lot of variables--experience, location/competition, etc.--that will impact what you should charge.
That being said, here's a website I've found totally invaluable: www.creativepublic.com. You'll find oodles of resources, including price list suggestions, for reference. Plus, there are also examples of job jackets, contracts, and tons more. There's a one-time fee of about $50, but it's well worth it. Honest.
Lots of luck! |

well, it really depends on your experience, portfolio and location. some of the designers i know charge around $34 - 40 an hour. More experienced designers might charge a lot more (upwards of $80 to $100 an hour).
i live in san francisco, though, where the cost of living is very high and salaries have to keep up, so you should keep that in mind when you're setting your rates. |

some charge by the job, bidding the job before starting, others charge by the hour form 25 to 300 dollars and hour depending on their ability and quality of their end product. |

How good are you? That affects how much you should charge. |

It totally depends on how good you are and the standard of living in your area. In BF I know of freelance designers that charge $25.00 an hour. Around my small city in VA freelancers charge $60.00. My agency charges $120 per hour and we have over 380 National awards. I have large national and regional clients and much of my competition is not here in VA but in NYC, Chicago or other large cities. They charge $250 an hour typically.
Depends on your skill, your capabilities, if you have some solid national level creative to show you can demand more. If it's just local business possibly not. My rates will also fluxuate with my level of work. If I am feeling that my team is too backed up I will charge more to make it worth the added stress. If we are very slow I will charge less to not have my guys sitting around emptying the company wallet.
Assess your skills and capabilities and combine them with your comunity size and charges of other agencies. Call them and ask as if you may have a project for them. If you feel like your an average designer, call the printers and ask what they charge. The printers here ($70) charge slightly higher than the freelancers ($60).
If you are the best in your city, call the most prestigious agency, get a ballpark rate and go slightly over it. |
