There's no right way to do this. If there was, everyone would do it. Same with a book. It would be number one on the best seller list.
However you can imitate what other successful companys in your field do. See how their website is set up. Is it easy to navigate and get information. Do they have reviews from customers. What are they saying. Make sure you don't fall into the same trap.
Your design firm should be the ones really driving the correct way to set this up. To do a ecommerce site like what you are talking about is going to require spending some pretty hefty money. They need to earn it.
Finally everything you do, newspaper. magazine, radio, your business cards whatever should have your site info on it. Always push people to use the site and keep that name in front of them. Never miss an opportunity to say or use your website name.
